Osamu Tanimoto
Osamu Tanimoto (b.1982, Tokyo) is a Japanese painter, printmaker, and digital sculptor based in Milan, Italy. He is also an instructor of drawing and painting at Milano Painting Academy.
His work draws from European and Japanese artistic traditions, allowing each to remain distinct while coexisting within a contemporary framework that reflects the cultural diversity of the global community and the artist himself.
His artistic career began with sacred art commissions in Europe, the United States, and Taiwan following his Baptism in Florence in 2010, and sacred art has remained one of his favored genres. Among his representative works is Holy Mother of Sorrow and Hope, located in the Bombed Mary Chapel of Urakami Cathedral in Nagasaki, Japan, and selected as a finalist for the Sacred Art Prize 2022 organized by the Catholic Art Institute. His drawing Merciful Father is part of the collection of Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
From 2013 to 2017, he served as a drawing instructor at the Sacred Art School in Florence, Italy.
He holds a Diploma of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from the Florence Classical Arts Academy (formerly the Russian Academy of Art in Florence), a certificate in etching and graphic arts from Il Bisonte in Florence, a Bachelor’s degree in Art Restoration from Marist University (formerly Marist College) in Poughkeepsie, New York, and an MFA in Digital Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, Italy.
