The Mission
Worldwide Sacred Art celebrates the beauty and universality of the Catholic faith through sacred art created by the cultures and peoples of every continent. We encourage the inclusion of Worldwide Sacred Art in prayer books, churches, schools, and other ministries so that the Global Church is more fully reflected in Christian prayer, education, and worship.
The Vision
What we see shapes how we live.
When we see Christ in every culture, we love more deeply.
When we see our brothers and sisters around the world, the Church becomes larger.
When we see beauty, our hearts become more receptive to God.
The Founder
Monica S. Amparo, JD, LLM, is a Catholic author and speaker with a deep love for the beauty and universality of the Catholic faith. Her passion for promoting worldwide sacred art has been kindled by her marriage of over thirty years to her Filipino-American husband and her subsequent immersion in a Filipino Catholic community. There, she witnessed the deep devotion of the people and noticed how seldom the sacred images she encountered reflected the rich cultural diversity of today’s Catholic Church. In addition, three of Monica’s four grandparents were born in Lebanon. Despite Jesus and Mary being Jewish, art from the Middle East is rarely reflected in prayer books either.
These realizations inspired her to write her award-winning book, One Mother, One Family: A Scriptural Meditation on the Rosary with Worldwide Sacred Art, which received an imprimatur from Bishop Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia. In her Rosary book, Monica shows how sacred images from cultures around the world can deepen prayer, expand our understanding of the Gospel, and build bridges among God’s people. From a Black American artist’s portrayal of the Annunciation, to Byzantine icons, to artwork from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Europe, she demonstrates how every culture illuminates the same Gospel stories through its own artistic vision—revealing both the richness of human diversity and the unity of the Catholic faith.
Monica’s vision is also inspired by the missionary legacy of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, whose World Mission Rosary invited Catholics to pray for the peoples of the entire world. Building upon that spirit, Worldwide Sacred Art seeks to bring the beauty and diversity of the Global Church into our prayer, helping us encounter Christ and recognize the dignity and faith of our brothers and sisters in every culture.
Monica’s presentations invite participants not only to learn about worldwide sacred art, but to encounter the living faith, stories, and artistic portrayals of Catholics around the world. Her message is one of beauty, unity, and discovery.
